I love being a travel advisor and helping people plan amazing getaways. I also love learning about all the wonderful properties out there.  I recently traveled to Sandals Grenada with a group of agents in order to experience the resort and learn more about what a wonderful vacation you will have at a Sandals resort. I am so excited to share this very full Sandals Grenada review with you – and help get you on your way to this amazing, adults only, all-inclusive!

Sandals Grenada

As a travel agent and certified Sandals Specialist, I was invited to spend three days at Sandals Grenada. As always, all opinions are my own.

Sandals Grenada Review: The Ultimate All-Inclusive Caribbean Resort

Why Visit Grenada?

Grenada is a small island in the Southern Caribbean, 500 miles from Aruba and only 400 miles from the northern coast of South America. Grenada is a sovereign state in the West Indies. Although there was some political unrest in the early 80’s, it is now very safe to visit Grenada.

Grenada is part of the Grenadines island chain, and is best known as the Spice Island because of its production of nutmeg and mace.

How to get to Sandals Grenada

On my recent trip, I flew direct from New York-JFK to Grenada on Jet Blue. During the summer months (and low season for Caribbean travel) there is not daily direct service from New York to Grenada. On the way home, I had to connect through Miami on American Airlines.

Grenada being a small Caribbean island, you might not have the option to fly direct, HOWEVER, once you arrive on island, it’s only a five minute ride to the resort. Remember, free transfers are included with your Sandals vacation.

So easy!

Why Choose Sandals for your next Adults-Only Vacation?

Sandals is a brand of five-star, luxury, adults only, all-inclusive resorts with properties in the Bahamas, Jamaica (I loved Sandals Royal Caribbean), three Sandals resorts in St. Lucia, including Sandals Grande St Lucian, Sandals Grande Antigua (which I visited in October 2020), Barbados, Grenada and Curacao. Each island and property is unique, although for many reasons Sandals Grenada is often noted as people’s favorite Sandals.

Sandals offers an elevated, all-inclusive experience with gourmet dining, top shelf alcohol, beautiful properties, and amazing rooms. A Sandals vacation includes many things you won’t find with other All-Inclusive resorts, including a no tipping policy, airport transfers, in room wine, greens fees, and many water sports included with your stay.

Italian Village at Sandals Grenada

On my recent trip to Grenada,  I was excited to experience a Sandals vacation, and needless to say I was not disappointed. At Sandals you want for nothing, the service is incredible and I very much enjoyed the food (so good!), drinks, entrainment, and all of the activities offered!

Looking for family friendly luxury all-inclusive? Then ask me about Beaches, their sister properties that welcome little ones – I can help you plan a trip to Beaches Turks & Caicos, Negril or Ochos Rios Jamaica.

All About Sandals Grenada

The Sandals in Grenada is a renovation of the former La Source Hotel. The property became a Sandals in 2014 after an extensive renovation and addition. This property was originally known as Sandals La Source, and is now just Sandals Grenada.

The beach on property is small, but beautiful. The water is crystal clear, warm, and very calm making it the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing swim.

Beach at Sandals Grenada

On property there are two main pool areas – one closer to the beach with a quiet relaxing vibe, and the party pool located further inland. Here you will find Sandals’ signature swim up bar along with day beds and cabanas.

Sandals Grenada is located about a five minute ride from the airport, on the other side of the hill. In my three nights and four days there, I heard only ONE plane go by! Since Grenada is so far south, it is about a four hour plane from New York, but once you land, you will be in vacation-mode in no time!

Sandals Grenada SCUBA Diving

Guests who dive love Sandals Grenada. From the resort you can take daily dive trips to some of the best shipwrecks in the Caribbean.

If you are a certified diver, you can dive every day of your stay (minus arrival/departure day). If you are a beginner SCUBA diver, you can get certified at Sandals for a small fee.

Sandals Grenada Rooms

Skypool Suite, yes that is an infinity pool up in the sky!

Sandals Grenada Skypool Suite

Sandals Grenada is divided into four distinct villages – Pink Gin, Italian, South Seas, and the Lover’s Hideaway. On property  there are over 21 room categories – something for every type of traveler and budget.

I stayed in the Pink Gin Village, in an Oceanview Walkout Suite. It was gorgeous, in a prime location, and well stocked with all of the Sandals amenities. Pin Gin Village is located right along the beach. Check out the tour I did of my room, #1105.

We toured rooms in each village including the Romeo and Juliet suite in the South Seas and the Skypool Suite in the Italian Village. I loved the Skypool suite – a 1-bedroom oasis with your own infinity pool in the sky! Who wouldn’t want to stay there? Check out this video tour of the balcony!

From Sandals: “Our signature SkyPool Suites boast the innovative design of a penthouse infinity plunge pool right off the bedroom, seemingly suspended from the sky.  It’s an architectural marvel that Sandals first introduced here at Sandals Grenada, an honour that the resort holds very near and dear

For budget conscious guests, and those who want a room in a more lush part of the resort – the Honeymoon Hideaway is the perfect option!

Sandals rooms are built for two and are very romantic – they have really perfected the art of creating unique lovers’ retreats!

Being that there are so many room types at Sandals, it’s ALWAYS best to book your Sandals vacation with a Certified Sandals Specialist, which I am! I can talk you through the experience you are envisioning and set you up with the best room to have the vacation of your dreams!

Choosing an all-inclusive resort can be tough. Some are big, some are small, some are on the beach, some just near it. Some resorts have better food, more drink options, and more entertainment than others. Of course, there is your budget to consider as well!

For those reasons, it’s always best to consult with a travel professional to help find the perfect resort for you next vacation. And the best part? My services are free!

That’s right, you get full on, personalized, concierge vacation planning service, and it does not cost you a cent more! In fact, a package vacation with one of my preferred suppliers can often save you money on your trip!

Sandals Grenada Dining

The number one question I get from clients interested in all-inclusive resorts – how is the food?

Sandals prides itself on offering Five Star Global Gourmet Cuisine. And I have  to say, I was BEYOND impressed with the food at Sandals Grenada. Both the quality and selection!

Sushi at Sandals Grenada
Sushi and Cocktails at Soy (all included)

At Sandals Grenada there are seven sit down restaurants on property – Soy Sushi Bar, Kimono’s, Butch’s Chophouse, Cucina Romana, Spice’s (buffet), La Jardinier and Neptune’s.

I ate at all of them, and the food was delicious. Now I eat vegetarian (and  someone else in our group was vegan) and at each restaurant, including  the Steakhouse, there were several options for me. At each meal, the server started by asking about any dietary restrictions or allergies, so the chef can get it 100% right.

Be sure to book a reservation for Hibachi at Kimono’s

For breakfast, you can dine at the buffet, or at the French bistro, La Jardinier. Lunch is served at the buffet as well as at Neptune’s on the beach. The food at Neptune’s is only surpassed by the beautiful view!

Dinner at Kimono’s and Butch’s are the only restaurants that require reservations. When you arrive on property  at Sandals Grenada, be sure to stop by the food concierge desk (located in the “living room”) and make your reservations for your stay!

I definitely recommend trying as many restaurants as you can!

As for other eateries, during the day there is a pizza shop, Dino’s, open by the main pool. Additionally, Café de Paris is a pastry shop open daily for coffee, pastries and ice cream.

SANDALS GRENADA PRO-TIP: Try the nutmeg ice cream at Café de Paris, it’s made with local spices!

Late night, you can take in a beer, some snacks or watch a sports game at the Tipsy Turtle, the  pub at  Sandals Grenada.

Also, worth mentioning is that when you book into a Club level room, room service is available all day, free of charge. I stayed in a club level room and ordered room service snacks a few times. There is an extensive menu of breakfast and all day options you can have delivered right to your door.

Club level guests can make their dining reservations in the Club Lounge. Luxury room guests can head to the dining concierge in the main lobby to make reservations. If you are in a butler level room, your butler will take care of that for you!

Sandals Grenada Butler Level

Want the experience of a life-time?

Then book a butler level suite.

Sandals Butler level is really the ultimate indulgence and so worth the cost.

Sandals Grenada Butler
meeting with a butler at Sandals Grenada.

There are so many incredible reasons to consider the butler level – which is another reason you should always book a Sandals vacation with a Certified Sandals Specialist.

I can talk through all the options with you, but believe it or not a butler level suite might be more within your budget than you realized.

Butlers cater to your every need. They will make all your dining and spa reservations, provide room service 24 hours a day (breakfast in bed, dinner on your balcony), they will set up your beach or pool chairs complete with bringing you a little cooler of your favorite beverages, they will shine your shoes, unpack for you, draw you a romantic bath, and ensure you have the most amazing stay exceeding your expectations.

What’s included in a Sandals Vacation?

A Sandals vacation is truly a luxury all-inclusive experience. Once you step on property, you will want for nothing. There is so much that is included with  your stay.

A vacation at Sandals includes round-trip airport transfers, all food, drinks, and use of the facilities. At Sandals Grenada that includes two large pools, hot tubs, tennis courts, beach chairs, and the fitness center.

Fun activities are listed in the resort calendar in your room (along with restaurant operation times).

There are several complimentary water tours offered through the dive shop down by the pier. I definitely recommend taking the island boat tour that is offered each afternoon.  Otherwise there are snorkeling trips twice a day. You can sign up for these at the dive shop.

Sandals Grenada Service

Around the resort there are cool hammocks to hang out in, and games such as cornhole, billiards, and pool volleyball!  Your room comes well stocked with spa products and a full mini-fridge complete with water, soda, Carib beer, and the wine of your choice.

But what really sets Sandals apart is the incredible service you receive as a guest. From the  moment you arrive, you will be catered to in a helpful, friendly way.

Oh and no tipping!

That’s right. It’s actually against company policy for employees  to accept tips from guests.

PS. I ordered room service one night at Sandals Grenada (For research purposes, of course) and I tried to offer the server $2 and she would not take it! It felt strange to not tip!

The only exceptions to Sandals Grenada tipping is you are expected to tip your butlers. At the time of this writing $20/butler per day is recommended.

This is not the resort where you have to tip heavily to get a strong drink or be served quickly.  This is the resort where staff comes around with handcrafted cocktails on offer for anyone that is needing a beverage.

Drinks at Sandals Grenada

Oh, and speaking of beverages – the drinks at Sandals Grenada were really good! I tried some of the signature cocktails and very much enjoyed the wine. Robert Mondavi wines are free flowing at Sandals and I loved the Chardonnay. In the restaurants, there are some bottles of wine that are available for a small fee.

From Gary Sadler, Senior Vice President of Sale:
“Gary’s Top 3” – a few things that I personally love about Sandals Grenada:
  • Café de Paris – No trip to Sandals Grenada is complete for me until I stop by and have some of their famous Nutmeg ice cream.   It’s a must-do on any visit here!
  • Tranquility Soaking Tubs™ for two – Did you know that Sandals Grenada was the first Sandals to unveil these free-standing outdoor tubs?   They’ve become so popular that they now appear in most of our rooms and suites across the chain, but for me, it’s always one of the first things I associate with Sandals Grenada.
  • Butch’s Chophouse – This elegant, New York-style steakhouse (another Sandals first) only serves the finest cuts of beef, cooked to your exact liking, accompanied by mouth-watering side dishes and flavorful sauces.   I make a point to try a different combination of dishes every time I have dinner here.  It’s called “research”.

I loved my stay at Sandals, and I can’t wait to go back to Grenada with my husband. If you are looking for the perfect honeymoon, destination wedding, anniversary trip or a luxury Caribbean getaway, I definitely recommend heading to Sandals Grenada. Be sure to reach out for all your Sandals vacation planning needs!
