Every once in a while, I get some crazy idea that actually comes to fruition. I mean I always have crazy ideas floating around in my head, but sometimes they actually turn into a fun adventure! Like when I decided we do that New York to Florida drive. And back of course!

Because, why not? Right.

No seriously, this trip was super fun and an awesome adventure! And we saved a ton of money by driving. I know many families do this road trip – from New York or the Northeast down to Disney, Universal Orlando or other parts of Florida. So, I am so excited to share my guide to help you plan your New York to Florida drive!

As the cold weather arrives here in New York, I had been looking at a warm weather getaway with baby girl. It’s her turn for a trip with mommy, since little man took the last mommy trip, going to Dutchess County with me. A few weeks ago, I saw some of the airlines were having sales (which I believe makes prices come down across the board) and I found two tickets from JFK to Orlando for less than $200 each!

Sadly, we hesitated on buying them. Baby girl was on the fence about not wanting to miss stuff at home to go to Orlando, and by the time I convinced her to go with me, the sale had ended and the fares had gone up.

WAY UP!

I feel like this is a familiar tale – do I book? Not book? Wait? Will prices go up? Go down? Will there be another sale?

It’s really hard to ever know if you are getting the best prices when booking travel. Except for one weekend a year when you can know you are getting great sales. When is that?

Let me share.

Stuff I Love, Travel

We travel as a way to spend time as a family. We travel to see the world and know that there is more to life than our tiny slice of it. We love long trips, like our three weeks in Hawaii, short, local getaways like our night in Dutchess County, or annual trips to our favorite winter spot, Southwest Florida. No matter near or far, short or long, each trip is special to our family. As cheesy as it sounds, the memories we create on these trips will last a lifetime.

As my readers know, I am always planning my next trip! I do love the planning process and putting the pieces of a trip together, but I also love the prospect of a one-stop shop. Last year, we took a big 3-week trip to Hawaii, which was really our first big adventure. The kids and I just spent two weeks driving to SW Florida (and back) so now I am thinking about something BIG for late summer 2018.

Recently, I’ve been flying a lot. In January I went to Cary, North Carolina and Ft. Myers, Florida. Hubby and I love the thrill of getting a low plane fare- we have lots of great tips and tricks for getting cheap & free flights (Which I really need to share soon!). We are lucky to have three airports that serve our area, LaGuardia, JFK and Islip-MacArthur. That alone gives us lots of travel options – but with all things being equal we always try to fly out of JFK. There are so many options to get there, it’s really the most convenient for us. And for that reason, people are always asking me about getting from JFK to Manhattan, or about transportation from JFK to NYC! So I put this post together to help making getting to and from JFK airport a breeze! I’m so excited to share all these great tips for getting to and from JFK like true New Yorker!

I feel a little bad because my son has been asking to go skiing for about four years (he is obsessed with Wii-Ski). But to me, a slight form of torture involves spending hard earned vacation money (and time) to spend more time in the cold. You all know I am a beach girl, and seek warm weather all winter long. But today, Claire is presenting both sides of the coin with her tips on how to plan your winter getaway like a pro!

And just maybe she will convince me that this is the year to in fact take little man to the slopes!

Winter is here in New York, so our next trip to Hawaii has been on my brain. Last year we were fortunate enough to spend three weeks traveling to Maui and the Big Island. Stuff I Love, Travel

Our family loves Uber. We take it around town, to the airport, or when mom & dad are going out and there will be too much wine involved. It’s an easy, affordable way to ditch the car and have a comfortable ride at your fingertips. Uber is also a great way to get around a new city! No need to worry about parking or traffic, and no need to navigate an unfamiliar, local, taxi system. The beauty of Uber is you know the price (or at least approximately) when you call the car, eliminating the age-old saga of taxi drivers ripping off tourists. Did you know you can save money on EVERY Uber ride, and maybe even score an {almost} free uber ride? Keep reading to find out how!
