Holidays, Stuff I Love, Travel

Fall is such a fun season! Especially when the weather has been so warm here in the Northeast! The kids are finally back to school and its not so terribly hot! Where I live here on Long Island, fall is such a great time for outdoor activities without the oppressive heat.

I also think fall is a great time for travel (in fact, in the travel industry it’s called the shoulder season – that transitional time between summer travel and winter getaways). In my experience you can get some great deals on trips, and everyone knows this is one of the best times to visit theme parks.

I actually do enjoy this time of year, up until January when well, winter. But I do love the fall holidays – Halloween and Thanksgiving, and the coziness of fall food – think squash, apples, and of course pumpkin everything!

So today I am rounding up my best of fall – from  my favorite activities, products, travel and links to some great fall posts that will hopefully inspire your best fall season!

Momma To Go readers know we love our Lego experiences. So far we have visited Legoland Florida. the Legoland Florida Water park and At the beginning of this summer, we spent a day at the Legoland Discovery Center in Westchester.

On both of our Legoland visits we were able to visit new Ninjago exhibits. In Florida, the Ninjago ride has JUST opened, and it proved to be one of our favorites! At LDC, the giant play area has recently been revamped into a Ninja theme! Modeled after the Temple of Airjitzu, the attraction’s new LEGO® Ninjago City Adventure play structure puts guests’ physical skills to the test with more than 20 interactive features including a vortex spinning barrel, a spiral slide of lights, lightning buzzer bars, crisscross maze, vertical rope climb and more, as they fight to save Ninjago City.

Today we were super excited to return to the Legoland Discovery Center for their LEGO Ninjago Days!

Wow! What I have learned this past two weeks from being sick, and spending a lot of time scrolling through social media feeds, is there is no season more polarizing than fall.

I’m sure you have seen all the memes, the anticipation of the #PSL (personally, I am not a fan) and friends rushing off to Trader Joe’s for all things pumpkin!

Then there are folks like me, who love the heat. And summer. Days spent at the beach and pool. For me fall, is trying to hang on to an extension of my favorite season. Hoping for that warm weather to continue way into October. In fact, #SeptemberIsStillSummer is one of my favorite hashtags!

But one “fall” activity that I do dig is apple picking! It’s one of my favorite yearly traditions. And I say, “fall” in quotes because honestly if you wait too late into September, all the apples will be gone!

Since moving to Long Island, our favorite place to pick is Lewin Farms. And since I have also seen so many “What are the best places to pick apples on Long Island” posts, I figured I’d answer that question and help many families start some new traditions of their own!

I love traveling with my little ones, but sometimes mom and dad need a vacation! Last fall we took a longer getaway to Las Vegas, and recently we went on short holiday to Greenport, Long Island. We have also taken day trips to this lovely North Fork town with our kids. Out in Greenport there is lots to do (and eat) for everyone!

Stuff I Love

I know I keep saying this, but I literally just sat down to write last month’s post and here it is time for a November Stuff I love!

November flew by. I was exceptionally busy trying to settle into my new role as Stay-At-Home-Mom, and Work-at-Home-Mom/blogger. I also got back on the educational horse so to speak and starting subbing at the awesome school I worked at 10 years ago. I also picked up a tutoring student who I am with three times a week. So yeah, keeping busy!

Stuff I Love

I feel like I keep saying this but the fall is flying by! I feel like I was just on the beach, and now we are done with Halloween! Between half-marathon training, trips to Minnesota and Las Vegas, and working a few odd jobs, I have not had time to be bored! I still have so much great content I want to share, and the actual writing is my favorite part of blogging. Despite not working full-time, I still have to deliberately carve out time to write. It’s a week into November already, and I am just (finally) sitting down to write my Stuff I love: October post! This post is the second in this series, where I share a few random things that I am loving lately.

Contrary to popular opinion, fall is definitely NOT my favorite season. I love the heat, the beach, the pool, shorts, flip-flops, and tanning – all things summer related! I can deal with spring, especially late spring, when it’s almost summer. I legit hate the winter. I hate the cold, dealing with coats, the snow, ice, and when it gets dark early – I really am one of those people that runs on Vitamin D and the winter just bums me out.

So I think it a bit crazy how people go gaga over fall (which doesn’t officially start until September 21 despite what Starbucks says). And if I have my way, shorts and flip flop weather will linger into October as well.

But even I will admit there are a few things about fall I look forward to doing each year with my family. Activities that are tucked between sweaty beach weather, and the bundled up/indoor fun of the winter. Some of the specific places I am about to mention are in my area (Long Island, New York), but the ideas can translate to  any town! So here is my list of four fun fall activities for families, that even I, a summer girl, can love.

Is every pre-school aged kid obsessed with trains? Okay my son is seven and he still loves a Long Island Rail Road train ride. This is also still his favorite book; he reads it at least once a week!  But back in his pre-school days trains were literally the only thing he played with, talked about and had any interest in. His favorite outdoor activity was walking to the pedestrian bridge on 67th street in Queens, where the LIRR trains race underneath. He could stand there for hours watching the trains go by. So it was no surprise that for Halloween that year, he asked to be a “ding-ding crossing.” Which is a railroad crossing to you and me. A railroad crossing Halloween costume?

Seriously where does he think up this stuff?
