June might very well be my favorite month… its finally warm and summery here on Long Island! The kids are done with school and we are definitely in summer mode! If you missed it, definitely check out my posts on Must-Have Pool Items and my Beach Essentials, where I give you my best gear and tips for my two favorite summer activities!

This month started with a trip – baby girl and I went to North Carolina, our second home. I’m hoping to get my best of the Raleigh post up soon! I’ve also been hosting some guest bloggers, and their posts have been insanely popular! I love reading, editing and curating content. I also was interviewed by Corey from Fifi+Hop about my month long Hawaiian adventure.

But on to my June Stuff I Love! This month I have three great outdoor things that I am totally loving! Happy almost 4th of July, and happy summer!

Stuff I Love: June 2017

The Lawn Doctor

We live on the south shore of Long Island, and although it’s not a very wooded area, we are about 1/10 of a mile from the nearest canal (which dumps into the Great South Bay). When we first moved to our house… in the month of August… I was so excited to have an outdoor space (we moved to the suburbs from the city).

But literally the first day we moved in, we were outside and I could not believe how buggy it was! You could not be outside after about 4:30, 5:00 if you were really pushing it. The mosquitoes were just so fierce. And they love me. I always get the most bites.

Anyone else?

So this year, we decided to bite the bullet and pony up the money for professional mosquito treatment. I looked for recommendations in local parenting Facebook groups, and then called around to several companies.

We decided to go with Lawn Doctor because they came highly recommended and were the lowest in price. We paid about $225 for an entire season of treatment. They came and sprayed at the end of May and will spray two more times this summer.

So far, very few bugs. I think I got 1 or 2 bug bites and we are now outside all day and night! We’ve hosted friends for BBQ’s and have eaten outdoors more already this June than we have in the last three summers!

Now I don’t love the idea of spraying chemicals etc, but the way I see it is sometimes you need to live and enjoy your life! We have been enjoying our outdoor space so much, it has been 100% worth it in my opinion!

Hampton Bay outdoor living room

This goes hand in hand with the above! All about the outdoor living!

So I bought this set two years ago, and we placed it in this small patio we have on the side of our house. Turns out we never go out that side, so I moved the furniture over to where we normally hang out in the main yard and I am loving this furniture!

First of all this set was not terribly expensive – $800 on Home Depot and free shipping! And it looks fancy! It was easy to put together and super easy to clean (just hose it down). We keep the cushions in one of these large deck boxes.

In fact, I am sitting out here RIGHT now writing this post, listening to the Jimmy Buffet station on Pandora!

Butter Chardonnay

You may sense a theme here on my Stuff I Love, I love a good glass of wine, and a cocktail or two!

I actually discovered this wine at the Macaroni Grill of all places! We were there celebrating grandpa’s 105th birthday (yeah you read that right) and they had this incredible chardonnay on the menu, Popcorn Chardonnay. I loved it so much, I looked it up and saw that Butter is another one of their wines. Equally delicious, and available here in New York at my local wine shop!

I posted a pic one Saturday when we were grilling and chilling in the yard and got so many great responses of friends and readers who love this wine as well. At a price of around $16/bottle this is a great everyday wine and makes a nice gift.

So yes, I am going to go sit on my new furniture, all night, and drink some wine! Sounds like a great summer day to me!

What are you loving this June?

  1. Your outdoor set looks so comfy! I love it. I know we struggle with mosquitoes and other bugs as we live in between two farms. I don’t know why it bugs LOVE ME. They don’t bother my husband, so I’m always investing in bug stuff. Haha. Great finds for this month!

  2. Wow! I had no idea there was a treatment like that for mosquitos – I have to look into that. This is going to sound like a crazy thing to love, but I am loving the thunderstorms we’ve had in my area the last several days – they’ve been so fun to listen to and they’ve been a nice relief from the extreme heat 🙂

  3. Love the outdoor furniture! We haven’t figured out our outdoor space yet to know where we want furniture, but will keep this in mind when we finally figure it out! 🙂 We LOVE the Jimmy Buffet Pandora station in June, July and August! Cheeseburger in Paradise gets us through the last week of school 😉

  4. Outdoor living is the BEST! We live on out screened in porch these days. I may now consider doing a mosquito treatment, my husband gets bitten up horribly! I guess I’m not sweet enough…
